The Joseph Binder Award is a platform for a community, passionate on illustration and graphic design.

This years edition goes in search of the secrets of the creative process. Unusual perspectives, compositions, shapes, forms and compelling colour gradients arouse our curiosity: What creative solutions can we expect?

The Joseph Binder Award is an international competition and showroom with a focus on graphic design and illustration and was first launched in 1996 by designaustria, the interest organization and knowledge centre for design in Austria. It is named after one of the most outstanding graphic designers and illustrators active in Austria, who subsequently also revolutionized visual communication in the United States.

Joseph Binder’s motto was: “In design, everything has a function. Design has a representational function. Design has a communicational function. Design has a motivational function.”

Graphic designers, illustrators, advertising agencies and students from all over the world are invited to enter their works realized in 2020 and after by 28 February (early bird) or 15 April 2022.

The submitted projects will be judged by an international jury of experts in thirteen categories: Corporate Design, Communication Design, Information Design, Type Design, Poster Design, Editorial Design, Packaging Design, Screen Design, Book Illustration, Media Illustration, Commercial Illustration, Illustration in Miscellaneous Applications and Design Fiction (Unpublished works, independent/non-commercial projects, unrealised concepts, student projects, etc. in all disciplines.)
